Hi Parents:
The Knight School's Little Geniuses Preschool Chess Program is coming to our school this fall, and a special kick-off class will occur the first week! Your child is invited to join the kick-off our amazing preschool chess program, "Little Geniuses." This program swelled to 30 locations and 200 chess nuts last year, and we will conduct Little Geniuses Preschool Chess class right here in our school each week of the upcoming year. This preschooler-only chess class specifically developmentally targets our preschoolers with puppet shows, fast chess clocks, playing chess for mardi-gras beads, collecting 25 colorful silicone wristbands, zany movies, hilarious songs, fun chess tourneys, and a great, fun spirit that makes kids never leave chess and gain problem-solving ability and academic confidence each week. Come check out the sample class! To enroll, just click here.

To come to the free sample class, please simply email Dr. Brooks at dbrooksphd@theknightschool.com and let him know you would like your child to be escorted to our chess room to check out this viewing of all that the Little Geniuses Preschool Chess Program offers. Coach will walk your child back to class after this free, no-commitment, sample class. For more info, contact Dr. Brooks at (205) 332-5233 or at dbrooksphd@theknightschool.com. We would love to have you in our amazingly effective and popular chess party! --David Brooks, Ph.D.

We are providing an exciting reading-incentive program, REACH FOR THE STARS!!  The goal is to motivate our children to read, keep them reading, and then reward them with books that grab their attention!  Your child benefits with reading and with books given to them (50% of their pledges will be given back to them in the books of your choice).  Your child’s classroom benefits by having children motivated to read and by free books (each class receives 50% of participant’s pledges). MCDC will be using this money to purchase foreign language books for the classrooms.

Your child will be rewarded with books for participating.  Participation in this program involves:

*  Collecting pledges from friends, neighbors, and relatives supporting their reading activity

*  Reading (or being read to) over the coming two week period

*  At the end of the reading period, the pledges will be collected and turned in to the front office

We will end the program with an Usborne Book Fair on August 17th and 18th, where your child can pick out a book or books with 50% of the money they raised!

Please help your child in this program by reading to your child and by helping them collect their pledges.  Your child will have the privilege of choosing new books to take home!

Every preschool child has a pledge sheet in their cubby/folder.  If anyone in the younger classrooms would like to participate, please see me for a pledge form.  Just think, if every child collected just $10, we would have $540.00 to spend on foreign language books for MCDC!!

Please turn in your forms and pledge money by Tuesday August 16th.

Good morning MCDC parents!  This Wednesday (June 29th) is our Annual Fourth of July Parade.  All of the classrooms participate in this parade.

We will begin lining up at 9:15am.  Please make plans to have your child dropped off and your car removed from the front parking lot by 9:00am.  If you will be participating in the parade with your child, please be sure to be here by 9:15am.  Wagons and strollers are welcome!  No motorized vehicles.  If your child will be riding a tricycle, you must be with them at all times.

With security escort, we will be crossing over Morris Rd, turning left before the facilities building, circling the parking lot, and crossing back over Morris Rd.

Please invite your family, friends, and co-workers to cheer us on!  The children love seeing people on the sidelines!

We will be giving the children popsicles in their classrooms when they come in from the parade.  Hope to see you there!

In light of the air quality alert, we will not be taking the children outdoors this afternoon.  Have a great weekend!

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management issued a code orange air quality alert in Madison County and other areas in Alabama today.

This means ground level ozone is expected to reach levels that could be harmful to people with lung diseases including asthma and for children.

ADEM recommends adults with asthma reduce heavy or prolonged activity outdoors. Experts say if breathing becomes difficult, move indoors.

The Air Quality Index is available at: https://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=aqibasics.aqi

So many fun activities planned this month!  The Week of the Young Child is my favorite week of the year!  It is a national celebration of children, my favorite people!! J  The Week of the Young Child is the 11th-15th of April.  We will begin the week off on Monday with everyone wearing their MCDC t-shirts (if you have one) and we will be having a Kick-Off Parade in front of the center at 9:30am.  We will also be doing lots of lots of Creative Art on Monday.  If you have a creative art medium that you would like to share with your child’s class, please let the teachers know.  On Tuesday, we will have a Read Aloud Day and we ask that the children dress up as their favorite book character.  They can even bring in that book to share with the class.  We will have a signup sheet for parents to come read to the class.  We will do it in 20 minute intervals, and hope to fill up every minute of the morning!  Wednesday is Field Day!  We will be playing and learning outside, so be sure to wear your athletic gear and sunscreen.  We also plan to have an outdoor picnic at 11:00am.  Please send in a lunch and drink with your child.  You are more than welcome to join us for the picnic if your work schedule allows.  Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy!!  Thursday will be our Annual Trike-A-Thon to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  The Preschool children will bring in a riding toy (bike, tricycle, etc…;but nothing electric) and they will be riding around the circle in the front of the building.  We will begin with Preschool C at 9:00am.  Please make arrangements to have your children dropped off and the parking clear by 8:45am that morning.  Then Preschool B will ride from 9:45-10:15am and Preschool A from 10:30-11:00am.  The younger children may bring a riding toy from home and ride on their playgrounds.  Our goal this year is to raise $3000 for St. Jude!!  You will find a pledge form in your child’s folder or cubby.  The pledge sheets need to be turned in by April 15th, the day after the Trike-A-Thon. We will also be listening to all kinds of music on Thursday.  If you have a musical talent, we would love for you to visit your child’s classroom to share that talent!  We will end the week on Friday learning all about Science!!  We would love for you to conduct a science experiment with your child’s class that day if you are available.  We will also have some experiments planned for the day including the Coke and Mentos experiment!  We would like to invite you to join us for an Ice Cream Social at snack time Friday afternoon.  We will provide the ice cream and will ask parents to sign up for the toppings.  I am looking forward to this fun filled week!!
