MCDC News

MCDC Families,

It was nice to talk to several of you last Wednesday morning at our board meet-and-greet.  I know that concerns about the weather and school closures may have impacted some of you that day, but you can always contact me or any other members of the board with any comments or questions.

As previously noted, we will have board elections coming up in May.  If you are interested in running for any of the positions up for election, please send me a short bio and indicate the position you’re seeking by next Tuesday (April 18th).  As a reminder, the positions up for election are:

  • Vice President (2 year term)
  • Treasurer (2 year term, must be a MSFC civil servant)
  • Member-at-large, representing enrolled families (1 year term)
  • Member-at-large, representing wait-list families (1 year term)

If you have any questions about the board or the positions up for election, please contact me or the other members of the board (especially those currently serving in the positions).

Thanks for being a part of MCDC,

Brian Mulac

MCDC Parents:

Thank you so much to everyone that has been able to bring in eggs and stuffers!  We are in need of a few more stuffers if you would like to bring in non-peanut candy or treats.  Hershey kisses, tootsie rolls, gummies, etc…

It looks like the weather is going to be BEAUTIFUL for the Egg Hunts!!

Creepers and Toddlers will be hunting at 9am, Explorers at 9:30am and Preschool at 10:00am.  We would love for you to join us if you are able!  Please remember that there is NO PARKING in the grassy areas.  Use the medical center next door for parking and be sure to leave the 20 minute spaces free for those dropping off and picking up during the egg hunt hours.  I do not want a parent with a carrier or small child having to walk from the medical center.  If you have family joining us for the egg hunt, please make sure that they know the parking procedures as well.  Thank you in advance for cooperating!

Please make sure when you leave after the egg hunts that your child’s teacher knows that you are leaving and your child is in their care.  Thank you!

MCDC Parents,

Please join us on Wednesday April 5th in my office (rm104) for a Meet & Greet with our Board of Directors.  If you are a new parent to the center, or you just haven’t had a chance to get to know our board, please stop by between 8:00am-8:30am.

Our Annual Egg Hunt will take place next week on Thursday April 13th.  All of the egg hunts will take place on the playgrounds.  Creepers and Toddlers will hunt at 9:00am, Explorers at 9:30am, and Preschool at 10:00am.  We would love to have you join us for this activity if your work schedule allows.  We are still taking donations of eggs and PEANUT-FREE candy or treats.  Stickers, tattoos, etc….

As with any activity that we have, please use the medical center parking lot as overflow parking.  We have several spaces in the front designated for drop off and pick up only.  Please do not park in these spaces to allow those just stopping by to drop off or pick up; especially those with baby carriers.  Please also DO NOT park in our grassy areas.  These are the areas that we use for evacuations and emergency vehicles.

Have a great week!

We enjoyed an incredible visit from The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra today!  The preschool children were such great listeners and loved every minute!  We look forward to having them back again soon!

MCDC Parents:

Thursday of this week is going to be a busy one!

If your child is in the Explorer Classrooms or Preschool, they will be going to shop in our Holiday Store on Thursday that will be set up in the Multi-Purpose Room.  We will have adult gifts for men and women and children’s gifts for boys and girls.  You will find an envelope in your child’s classroom to place your payment in as well as list who they will be buying for.  Each gift is $2.00.  Please indicate in detail on the envelope who your child is buying for.  For example:  Sissy (big sister, 14 yrs old); NoNo (grandfather); Boo-Boo (little brother 6 months)  You may make a check out to MCDC or pay with cash.  If you do not have exact change, we will make change the day of the store and put that change back in your child’s cubby or folder.

Our preschool classes, Preschool A, B, and C have been invited to perform at Marshall’s Tree Lighting Ceremony this Thursday in front of Building 4200 (Marshall Space Flight Center on Rideout Road).  If you would like your child to participate, please have them at 4200 by 4:35pm.  Please let me know if your child will be participating.  The children will sing two songs and then Santa will light the tree!  There will be refreshments in the lobby of 4200 following the program and Santa will be available for pictures and to listen to your child’s wishes!

Please let me know if you have any questions and have a great week!!

The front entrance will be available for use for the remainder of today and all day on Friday.  Construction will begin again on Monday.

MCDC Parents:

Beginning this Monday October 24th, there will be construction in the front of the building that will obstruct the front entrance.  The construction will be taking place between the hours of 8AM-3:30PM; however, the entrance will be blocked outside of these hours as well.  We are having cement bollards installed.  We are optimistically hoping that the construction will last no longer than two weeks.

While under construction, everyone will have to use the playground entrances and back doors to drop off and pick up.  During the main hours of drop off (6:45am-8:45am) the playground gates will be propped open and during the main pick up times (3:45pm-5:45pm).  In the event that the preschoolers are on their playground, you will have to ask one of the teachers to open that gate.  Please be very conscientious of the children when entering the gates on the playgrounds.  Please make sure that the gates close tightly behind you.

If you are dropping off or picking up during hours other than those listed above; please call us at 256-544-8609 and we will assist you.

Only the MCDC staff members have keycard access to the back entrances.  You will need to knock on the doors to the classrooms.  I know this is going to be extremely inconvenient, but please be patient.  Be aware that drop off and pick up will take longer than normal so allot yourself some extra time.  You will drop off and pick up in same classrooms that you typically drop off and pick up in.  Since your routine will be different, don’t forget to sign your child in and out each day.  We will try and make this process as simple as possible for everyone.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
