MCDC Families,

We have scheduled an outdoor workday for this Saturday (May 15th) from 8am-12pm.  Below is the sign up genius link with some tasks we would like to get completed.

If you are unavailable this Saturday, but would still like to contribute, we really need donations of soil to replenish the garden beds on all of our playgrounds.

Please let me know if you have any questions!  We could really use some strong backs! J

MCDC Families and Staff,

You have asked and Cecilia has delivered!  The link below is the gateway to your MCDC swag!  T-shirts, Sweatshirts, Pull-overs, Baseball Tees, Coffee Mugs, Masks and Tote Bags!  The artwork on the Baseball Tees is a creation by our very own Melissa Kellar (Explorer A)!

We have already rolled this out to the staff, so you may have seen a few of them sporting their MCDC pride!

Speaking of the staff, any of these items would make great gifts for Staff Appreciation Week. (details on staff t-shirt sizes can be found on our website)  When is Staff Appreciation Week you ask??  Well, it is planned for the week of June 7th-11th.  Details about this week to follow.

Last day to order your MCDC swag is May 26th.  Orders will arrive sometime between June 7th-16th.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

MCDC Families,

Thanks to those who came out and voted in the Board of Directors election yesterday and to those that ran for positions!

Congratulations are in order for our newly elected Board members:

Vice- President:       Alex Dominguez

Treasurer:               Heath Martin

Member at Large:     Kate Estes

Member at Large:     Sarah Bradford

When you see them, please congratulate and thank them for volunteering their time.

A special thank you to our outgoing board member as well.  We really appreciate all the time and effort you have put into making MCDC even better!

Outgoing Vice-President: Eileen Beardsley

A number of years ago, dedicated parents set up MCDC, a non-profit organization, to provide this important service to MSFC and our community. The involvement and volunteerism of parents help make MCDC a unique and special place!

You’ll be receiving two surveys over the next two weeks to share feedback about you experience at MCDC.  However, we want your to know that we’d like to hear from you any time you have a concern or suggestion (no matter how small!) so that it can be properly addressed. Please send feedback directly to myself, Cecilia, & the MCDC Board (mcdcboardofdirectors@gmail.com). You are all valued members of our little community, and we want to ensure your voices are being heard.

Thank you!

MCDC Families and Staff,

MCDC has been nominated on the “Best of Huntsville” website, and MCDC is listed under two categories:

1) Best Daycare

2) Best Pre school

You can vote ONCE PER DAY until May 14th here: https://wahr-fm.secondstreetapp.com/Best-of.../gallery...

A great idea is to set a daily reminder with this link.

We would really appreciate your vote!

MCDC Families and Staff,

We are excited to welcome a Petting Zoo this Thursday to MCDC!!  This is the same Petting Zoo that we had visit 2 years ago.  They do not charge for their visit, but they do ask for donations.  A green bucket for donations is on the front desk.  If you can donate, please do so.  The owners are so sweet and the children really enjoy seeing all of the animals.

If I remember correctly, last time they had a Llama, a Pony, a Turkey, Rabbits, and Baby Goats.

We will have the Toddlers visit from 9:00am-9:20am, Explorers from 9:20am-9:40am, Pre C from 9:40am-10:00am, Pre A from 10:00am-10:30am and Pre B from 10:30am-11:00am.  We will be sure to take lots of pictures to share with the parents!

Hello All!

It is that wonderful time of year again where MCDC holds its annual Board of Directors election. Some of you may be thinking…didn’t we just do this?... and yes, we did, however the election held last fall was in place of the election that should have occurred last spring while MCDC was closed due to COVID. In normal years, elections are to occur each spring with new Board members taking their place by June of each year. So here we are again…

As a reminder, MCDC is a parent-run organization, consisting of a Board of Directors that includes a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar and two Members at Large. Parent involvement is critical to the success of MCDC. We highly encourage anyone interested in taking a more active role in the day-to-day operations of MCDC or that has a strong desire to serve to consider submitting their name for the election.

It is requested that those that are interested in running for a MCDC Board of Directors position please submit a short bio and the position they would like to be considered for to mcdcboardofdirectors@gmail.com NLT Friday, 23 April 2021. We currently plan to conduct the election on 6 May 2021.

The following positions are up for re-election this year:

Vice-President (2-year term)

The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President during his/her absence.  The Vice President shall also coordinate the purchase of workman’s compensation and liability insurance.

Treasurer (2-year term)

The Treasurer, who must be a MSFC government employee, shall be the custodian of all Corporation funds.  The Treasurer shall provide for the proper handling and recording of the details of all finance transactions.  The Treasurer shall prepare a report of the Corporation’s financial condition for presentation at the General Membership meeting.  The Treasurer shall prepare the annual budget, in consultation with the Board of Directors, to be approved at the General Membership meeting.

Members at Large (1-year terms)

There will be two Members-at-large elected to serve on the Board of Directors.  The first Member-at-large will represent parents who have children currently enrolled in the MCDC, provided candidates are available.  The second Member-at-large position will represent parents who have children currently on the waiting list of the MCDC provided candidates are available.  Specific duties shall be assigned by the Board of Directors.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. It has been a pleasure serving you all as MCDC’s Vice President these last two years!

Regards,

Eileen

Well, we had an eventful afternoon to start off our Week of the Young Child! I took some pictures today of the creative art, but didn’t get a chance to download them.  I will share those tomorrow!

Tomorrow is Read Aloud Day!  You may come to school dressed as your favorite book character.  I can’t wait to see!

If you have not already, please visit the link below and register for our Trike-A-Thon fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Click on Find Your School and then on our 4/15/21 event.  We have been participating in this fundraiser for over 20 years and it is very special to us, as one of our very own MCDC students is currently at St. Jude this week.  Please get your family and friends involved and let’s crush our goal of $5000!!!

Thursday:                   Trike-A-Thon

Our annual Trike-A-Thon is to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Our goal this year is to raise $5000!!  You will find a pledge sheet in your child’s folder or cubby.  The pledge sheets need to be turned in by Friday April 16th.   The classroom to raise the most money will get a Pizza Party!!

The preschool children will bring in a riding toy (tricycle, bike, but nothing electric) and they will ride around the front parking lot.  Please plan to have your children dropped off and the parking lot clear by 8:45am that morning.

Preschool C will ride from 9:00am-9:30am, Preschool B will ride from 9:45am-10:15am and Preschool A will ride from 10:30am-11:00am.  The younger children may bring in a riding toy to play with on the playground on Thursday.  You can take this riding toy directly to your child’s classroom on Thursday when you drop off.  The preschoolers will park their tricycles or bikes in the front of the center by their classroom label.

Friday:            Science Day and Ice Cream Social

We will end the week with a bang!  We will be conducting science experiments.  If you have any ideas for us, please let your child’s teacher know!

We will also have an Ice Cream Social at your child’s snack time.  MCDC will provide the ice cream and we will have a sign up for toppings.
