MCDC Parents,

This Thursday Coach Daniel with The Knight School will be here to do a demo chess class for our preschool classrooms.  More information about this program can be found below.  Also below is information on a possible new extracurricular activity for our preschoolers that I would like to get your feedback on.

Hi Parents:

We invite you to check out The Knight School! Read on to find out what makes us totally unique among after school activities.

The Knight School is the chess party for the well-rounded kids of America. Unlike your typical chess program, our primary focuses are good sportsmanship and fun. Join The Knight School chess party and give your child the gift of undeniable academic confidence, amazing chess friends, a self-identity as a smart kid, and a weekly dose of childhood joy that is the highlight of their week!

This revolutionary, party-based approach to chess has had amazing success—with an all-time record of 51-0 against traditional chess programs in school vs. school play—because of our unique and unprecedented educational philosophy, “the chess party.” Our unique model has swept America because it has never been seen before: we simply invite everyone from the brand new beginner to the highly advanced chess player (ages 4 – 12) in your school to join our school chess team and we use only super-fun teaching methods such as super-fast, chess clock-slapping chess games, zany chess videos, a strict bully-free environment, silicone wristbands for tactics mastery, chesspuzzlers for candy, driving musichilarious tactics-lesson videos, and Mardi-Gras bead chess tournaments each day we practice. Sign up today!

In 90 seconds or less, what is The Knight School?

Why should my child play chess?

The research suggests that chess improves and reinforces academic confidenceproactivitytest scores, and personal integrity. Plus chess provides your child with smart, funny friends that will be positive influences in their life. Many, many chess moms and chess dads have come to me and thanked me for helping their son or daughter to be ready to tackle their classrooms at school. Many of my kids use success in chess as a springboard to classroom success. So very many of my kids develop a self-identity as a "smart person," and that understanding of themselves as very smart people remains with my students all their lives. Read more here:

"Completing the Perfect Childhood”

We also have the opportunity to add another extracurricular program for our preschoolers:

Brain Builders STEAM Pre-school uses play to open up the world of early science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and language skills for young children. All classes are hands-on to ignite a natural curiosity of learning and foster a love of discovery and investigation.  Classes build skills such as confidence, creativity and collaboration.

Student will utilize LEGO® Education resources and a variety of building materials to grow their understanding of gears, levers, pulleys, wheels, axles, math, motion, measurement, shapes and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way.

Classes are geared towards children ages 3 ½ to 6 years old and meet for 30 minutes once a week. Classes meet 4 times a month. Monthly tuition is $45 with a $25 annual registration fee.

Would you be interested in adding another program, or do you feel we have enough currently to choose from?  I would love to hear your feedback!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

MCDC Families and Staff:

MCDC will be closed Monday and Tuesday, since those are holidays.  In the event of a government shutdown that goes beyond that, MCDC will remain open since NASA provided utilities are funded through January and other operating costs are paid by tuitions, not federal funds.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you.

MCDC Families,

I hope your Tuesday is running like a Tuesday and not a Monday! J

Reminder: Budget Vote is tomorrow morning from 7:30am-8:30am in my office Room 104.  There will be a board member here to answer any questions you may have about the budget.  We do have to have a 10% quorum, so please make plans to stop by and vote!

Thanksgiving Lunch is this Thursday at 11am!

  • Our annual Thanksgiving Lunch will be held on Thursday November 15th at 11:00am.  MCDC will provide Turkey, Drinks and Paper Products.  We ask families to sign up for side dishes and desserts.  There is a signup sheet available on the front desk right as you walk in.  Please indicate how many ADULTS will be in attendance and what you plan on bringing.  Friends and family are welcome!  Please sign up no later than Tuesday.  OR you can email me by Tuesday.
  • We do not have the capacity to store any cold items or heat any items that you will be bringing.  Please either bring your items with you when you arrive, or have something to keep them cold or hot.  Please also provide serving utensils.  You may pick up your dishes as soon as the luncheon is over.
  • The children will be served lunch from the kitchen as they normally are and will be eating in the classrooms.  Please do not go into the classrooms before visiting the cafeteria to fix your plate.  Please first fix your plate and then join your child in their classrooms.  Creeper parents: as your children are usually asleep during this time, we will have several tables set up in the multi-purpose room for you.  We would still like you to join us for lunch!
  • Please use the medical center parking lot for overflow parking during this event.  Do not park on the curb or in the grass.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanksgiving Week:  We placed sign-up sheets in the classrooms to see who would be out the week of Thanksgiving in order to schedule our staff.  If you did not have a chance to sign up on that sheet and your child will be out any days next week, you can just send me an email.  The only day we will be closed is on Thanksgiving Day.  We will operate our normal hours the other days of the week.

Spoiled Rotten Photography will be here the 27th-29th.  If you would like your child’s picture taken, please sign up at:

If you have any conflicts and need your child photographed on a certain day, please let me know ASAP.

MCDC Families,

We are so excited about our Fall Festival this Friday night from 5:30pm-7:00pm in the Activities Building (4316) on Digney Road.

We will have two moonbounces, hotdogs, popcorn, sno-cones, games, prizes and more!  Friends and family are welcome so feel free to invite others!

This event is free of charge; however, we will be taking donations at the door.

One of our events that we will need help with is our cake walk.  We will need donations of cakes, goodies, cookies, etc….  The more the better!  These can be store bought or homemade.  You may drop them off in the front office or bring them to the Fall Festival with you.

Thank you for helping us make this such a fun event each year!  I hope to see you there!
